Chewing Nails

Winter 02-03

I'm staring at the future

One I may not be part of

And I'm realizing I was wrong

Because THAT is nothing to fear

THAT is a familiar face

I have never met

I squeezed too tight

And I lost sight

Of what was important

Wilted regrets

We all make mistakes

Mine ended up

Claiming the best piece of me

"Wilted regrets" -- very lovely. I like this poem. It seems simultaneously straightforward, yet evasive.
