At Capernaum, 2

I seek the great granchild of Simon Peter.
Can you direct me? I would like to meet her.
I have been sent here by Onesimus,
our bishop in Colossae, to discuss
the content of the great Apostle's letters,
written before the Romans put their fetters
on him, before the day they crucified
him on the Vatican hill and denied
a proper burial. His family
may like this copy of the words he wrote,
before Nero's malicious anger smote
him down. Onesimus, who had known Paul,
has gathered writings of our faith. Not all
the others' are collected---Jude and James,
stepbrothers of the Lord, whose sacred names
are also pillars of our history.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Early Christian legend suggests that Onesimus, the slave mentioned in The Apostle Saint Paul's Epistle to Philemon, became bishop of the city of Colossae, and collected Saint Paul's extant letters. I happened to think that Onesimus may have gone beyond that collection, to attempt to gather as much of the Apostolic correspondence as he could.

Thank you

I really appreciate your comment on my Capernaum poem. Words like yours help me to keep going. You may or may not have noticed that I changed my pen name, but regardless of that, I hope to keep posting more poems about our mutual faith.
