Idea From My Masonic Experience That I Would Like To Propose, With Some Variation, To PostPoems' Poets

During the the last half of my Masonic experience, say the years from 1989 through 1992, my particular Lodge adopted, inforally (that is, without obligation upon the members) to decorate old Masonic tombstones (that is, those marked by the Square and Compasses) when decorating our own loved ones' tombstones on Memorial Day.  Across from my grandparents' tombstone in Germantown Cemetary was a rather high, obelisk type monument, with the name of one male (and no others) and the Squae and Compasses.  None of the headstones in the immediate vicinity bore his surname, so I presumed he was alone in the cemetary.  My family and I adopted that obelisk and decorated it each Memorial Day until I withdrew from active participation in the Fraternity.

PostPoems' archives is full of the Poems of early members who no longer participate---whether due to death, disability, or a bad attitude, we shall probably not know.  I visited the Poems of one of those Poets last night---a Poet who, during the few years of our acquaintance, was very, very diligent to comment on my early poems.  While visiting those Poems and placing my comments on a couple of them, I though of several Poets who were very kind to me, and who are no longer participating:  HawkSquaw, Hook, AngelWolf, and z2cute---whose poem, "Greatest Gifts" is documented by our WebMaster, Jason, as the oldest poem on the site, posted October 13, 2000.  (I was pleased to see this date---on October 13, 1975, I announced to my parents, during dinner, that I wanted to become a poet, and their faces blanched faster than a mess of peas in boiling water.)

I know that some who will read this either do not believe that a community exists on this site, or do not want to participate in it.  I also know from a couple of Poets who maintain a credibility of Cosmic proportions, that a community most certainly exists on this site.  I ask those who believe in that community to simply consider what I am asking.  I can only demand participation from myself; but I ask it of those who believe in the spirit of PostPoems, not just as a convenient site to display poems, but as a fellowship of Poets.

The Poet who inspired these thoughts in me since my visit to her poems last night is my friend Rae, whose screen name is Yellowspecks.

I am also not suggesting that those of us who might be inclined to do this should take a proprietary or possessive attitude.  Rae's poems are hers, not mine.  My comments on her poems will be intended, first, to honor her; and, second, to call attention to her work.

Again, I only propose this for consideration; I can only demand it of myself.  I owe that much to Rae; but, I also believe, we owe that much and more to PostPoems.

Fortunately, PostPoems'

Fortunately, PostPoems' archives preserve so many of those neglected Poets' poems, so there are plenty to go around.  And thanks for the comment and the validation---coming from you, that means a whole lot to me.
