Although this is the week that culminates in the festival of Pascha, which is the central joy of the Orthodox faithful, my heart is heavy; and the hearts of my brethren are also heavy with a sad burden.
At the beginning of March, 2022, His Eminence, Archbishop Paul, was diagnosed with multiforme glioblastoma---an aggressive, and incurable, brain cancer. Unable to cure or alleviate it, his medical team believed they could delay the inevitable with a battery of radiation and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the cancer mounted a full scale attack upon His Eminence, and apparently over this weekend (which was the Orthodox equivalent of the Western Palm Sunday; although the Orthodox emphasis, because of the Church's faithful expectation of resurrection, is on the raising of Lazarus---as reported by Apostle John in his Gospel), the Archbishop moved even closer to death. The various parishes in his diocese have been notified to be prepared for the announcement of his repose (or, if God wills, a miracle of healing).
With the latter possibility in mind, I ask you to pray for his Eminence, Archbishop Paul, that he may receive a miracle of healing in order to continue his work of leadership in the diocese. Whether you are a Christian or not; whether you are an Orthodox Christian or not: I ask you to offer prayer, or good thoughts or wishes for the healing of His Eminence, Archbishop Paul in this time of his direst and severest medical need.
Thank you very much.

Sending positive thoughts and
Sending positive thoughts and prayers for the Archbishop now. May healing light surround him, and you as well! Your compassion is an example of Christ's love in action.
Thank you so much for that.
Thank you so much for that. And please accept my apology for the glaring nonsense phrase that was in the. first paragraph until about five minutes ago, when I removed it. That first paragraph was written just after my dose of pain meds (which, while very effective, are also causing me to see things that are not there---making me feel that my room is full of ghosts and such. But, as I write this reply at 2:55am, I have just over eight hours until my daughter picks me up and transports me home.
Again, thank you for your positive thoughts and prayers for the Archbishop's recovery. Your kindness is remarkable.
The inconveniences of my particular affliction are certainly diminished in comparison to his illness. I think that is a lesson that God wants me to learn, and to learn fast. Amazing how old age, and my present situation, have such wisdom to teach.
