+ 2ND POEMS: A Few Breath Prayers

Rejoice evermore.  Pray without ceasing.

---1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

1.  After Luke 18:13

LORD JESUS, be merciful to me, a sinner.

Let a multitude of my breaths bear

the eight words of this powerful prayer---

as good for the adept as for me, a rank beginner.

2.  After Psalm 6:2 and 1 Samuel 3:10

Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am weak.

Your servant will listen, LORD, as You speak.

3.  After Psalm 9:13, Hebrews 4:16, 2 Kings 2:9, and the Kyrie Eleison

Have mercy upon me, O LORD, consider this trouble

that I bring before your Holy Throne:

to you, the need is already known.

Send Your merciful grace to help, and I ask that the portion be double.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I signed this as "transcribed by . . .," because I do not believe that I composed these poems.  They came to me during a reading of several Biblical Scriptures, as I seek, even at this age, for a Scriptural prayer rule fully from, or in response to, the Holy Bible.

always a way forward

Whenever I’m dragging and my soul is in anguish, I read Psalms and find new strength and a path forward. So great is the darkness around us, it often eclipses our soul’s ability to cope. But whenever we read Psalms, we have that comfort of knowing, is not a new phenomenon. And with God’s Spirit, there is always a way forward. As so many before us have found.

This is a most splendid (and again I say, A MOST SPLENDID) testimony, and I am so very grateful to you for sharing it me, and with the PostPoems community.  Reading it was more than just an act of the mind (as Wallace Stevens might say):  it was, also, an act of the soul!

So much Light and compassion

So much Light and compassion breathes in, out and through each regal, heartfelt prayer that I believe they are, absolutely, Divine, and you, with humility, were a willing vessel. And that's no small honor! Weren't many great poets like William Blake , Henry Thoreau and others going back to Virgil and Homer, sometimes couriers for Ultimate Reality?

I am so deeply moved on a very personal level by these gleaming, most healing, special deliveries. Thank you for being an open vessel bearing precious gifts. God bless.

Thank you for your comment

Thank you for your comment and the very fine compliments.  A comment from you is always a personal thrill of the finest order; and then when you mention the name of Virgil, that just raises my joy exponentially.  I thank you, more than my mere words indicate, for selecting this particular poem for your comment.
