Even the most dignified monuments in
that cemetery seem insignificant,
belittled by the massive spaceship (its shape,
a geometric travesty---to our eyes
disorienting)
as it rests upon huge supporting struts that
it lowered, almost delicately, among
the graves (none of which were disturbed) as if to
respect the dead, despite disdainful silence
toward us---the alive.

This Island Earth (1955)
The sci-fi reference reminded me of a 1955 flick, This Island Earth (1955) which I had the privilege to view the previous day. And many emotions and thoughts that went along in its themes and undertones: respect, belittling, and disorientating realities. A fine blend to thus employ the sci-fi genre and jargon in poetry. That's the good stuff!
