I love the baskets full of decorated eggs and candy;
chocolates and jellybeans, and other treats of sweet confection;
and lunch, with ham, taters, salad, and olives is just dandy;
but greater than all this, by far, is Jesus' Resurrection:
through Him believers have redemption, nor need fear rejection.

Author's Notes/Comments:
After the Easters of 1967 and 1968, I realized, despite my childhood naivete and lack of education in common Christianity, that EASTER was far more important, theologically and Christologically, than Christmas (I might point out that while only two of the four Gospels provide a Christmas narrative, all four---of course---include the Resurrection narrative). In my parents home, Easter was not given much attention; and the gifts received, like stocking stuffers, were usually inexpensive and unremarkable. But, to me, they became the greatest of treasures, to be appreciated not for any intrinsic worth, but for the holiday they represented.
In my old age, EASTER continues to be my favorite Holiday. I happen to believe that Heaven is has a Easterl setting and emphasis, and I look forward to my departure to that blessed place. In late Ferbuary (2023) as I revise this poem and its notes, I think back to some of the most happiest events of my past; and how they were associated with EASTER.
sounds like a transcendent
sounds like a transcendent moment in your life well captured in these words. btw, I do love jelly beans. They're almost like springtime kryptonite for me.
Thank you for that comment.
Thank you for that comment. Yes, it was a transcendent moment, I can remember where I was in my parents house when the realization came upon me. Since that time, Easter has always been the center of my year. And yes, those jellybeans are marvelousl.
