In early days, around my neck
I wore a friend with a sense of joy
She dangled free and loved her place
And would smile back to me
We spent our hours in a quiet way
Basking in that sense of self
Around her neck I'd dangle too
And we'd never be apart
We'd take a trip to a nowhere place
Extending our hands to point at laugh
We'd compare, contrast and live our lives
As jewels to the other's hand
But time made things weary
We'd both look away slow
Without extending our chains
Or our fingers
As we moved away the links would sever
And leave our jewels to rain
We fell helpless to the floor below
Without a kind word to spare the other
My eyes averted, her tongue ran cold
And we ended
And ended alone
From the beginning my focus was divided
In a moment's notice I had fallen down
My head in my hands, my blood in my palms
She had tumbled to another love
Time was spent wasted, air filling the cracks
Living life in such a way leaves nothing but a sigh
And yet we'll remain without our prizes
And buy something plastic,
just for the occasion.
I like this poem :D The comparison between a jewelry and relationship is quite creative :]
