We've watched it fall apart
We've taken it so lightly
We've removed it from our hearts
And retreated from it blindly
We've built it up in silence
We screamed as it collapsed
We'll rely on it by tomorrow
And dispose of it in laps
We'll label it like scientists
And muse on it by voice
Once the interest is forgotten
We'll abandon it by choice
People young in their nature
They'll discover and disregard
It'll gather dust pleasantly
Until it's assembled from the start
Without a motive or intention
It tends to drift from here to there
Occasionally saving a life or two
Or polluting the common air
People may try to define it
And to capture it by hand
But it will simply shrug them off
Denying the good and the bad
It's a welcome bit of devotion
Prone to catch one by surprise
Something that could lead to prosperity
Or eventually to our demise
It's just got a power in such a way
And it's impossible to simply watch it die
Love can tear the world to pieces
Just moments after letting us feel alive.
