Rivers

Secular Poetry

As the mighty rivers flow

So do the tears from my eyes.

A broken sob escapes my lips

As I fall to my knees

And hide, hide my face in my hands

Ashamed of my sudden weakness.

And so I weep, lonely and confused-

Surely there are many reasons for my tears

Yet through the mist even I cannot see them.

My thoughts become a tangled web,

My heart, rent, broken and bruised

My tears, falling soft upon the ground

And my body, riddled with exhaustion.

Lying back upon my bed,

I close my eyes

As the night slowly draws me into its warm embrace.
