The Ocean

The hypnotic rush of the water

The deafening roar of the waves

A rhythmic song punctured by the crash

More precious than silence

Pushing and rolling and folding over itself

Foaming and stretching out onto the shore

Clinging on to rocks and sand

Letting go of shells and seaweed

Always crawling so close, teasing and taunting

The smell of salty danger evident

A deadly allure

Spreading like a contagion

The clouds open up, letting slices of sunlight through

It sparkles and dazzles with such brilliance

It shimmers and dances with such radiance

It was blinding, so I went into tiding

Author's Notes/Comments:

Yesterday, I sat and watched the waves for 40 minutes and thought about life. It was really deep stuff.

Also, I really couldn't think of a last line...

Criticism/input greatly appreciated!

I really enjoyed reading this

I really enjoyed reading this piece, brought a sense of calmness to me as I read it :)

"I am my own sort of strange, a supernova of madness and brillance. Forced to share the same space and time. Sane enough to not be seen, yet not crazy enough to be heard." -- Matthew Wayne

Thank you!

Wow, thank you! That's exactly what I was going for. When I was sitting there looking at the waves, I felt this amazing calmness, and I really wanted to exert that calmness in my poem! Thanks!
