To many I have seen fall to its strength

Good times plummet out of mind.

Forevers have been cut in length

Happiness caught in a bind.



The beginning brings hope for the future

And dark times of loneliness fade.

Exposure to new life and new culture,

A place where loyalty and trust are laid.



So the seasons fly by without notice.

Age becomes less of a thought.

As they reminisce about the good times

And the joy the years had brought.



Then without warning it happens.

Something changes on one side.

And then like a bolt of lightening

Down comes the Great Divide.



That which was once happy turns to great sorrow.

Pain replaces pleasure long gone.

The hate snowballs with each tomorrow.

Darkness where the sun had once shone.



Loyalty slips into scheming.

Minds warp toward maim.

Fury burns at their parting.

Distrust becomes their bane.



Then everything is left lifeless.

The years wash away with the tide.

It has clamed yet another victim.

That known as the Great Divide.
