I dream

Folder:
Depression

I dream of a world where someone who’s suffering with depression or any mental illness,

is not treated with disgust or contempt.

There not treated as a patient either.

Rather they are treated as a human.

A person who for whatever reason whether it be a chemical imbalance

or they have just reached their breaking point.

We all have those moments,

and you can’t compare your moments to others.

It’s an incredibly personal event.

But we can’t deal with them alone.

I dream that no matter who you are you are cared for,

You are held and simply told it will be alright.

You are shown the affection you are needed,

That no matter what type of care you need or want,

you are shown it with the dignity you deserve.

Because just because you feel broken doesn’t mean you’re not

worthy of being show the dignity and love you deserve.

I dream that those helping understand what the person is going through.

That sometimes they don’t need or want to be told what they should do.

That for some all they want is someone to sit with them and simply be with them

as they pick themselves up.

Others do want a hand in standing back up.

I realize it can be difficult being on the outside looking in and trying to figure out what to do.

But as a dreamer I say to you this.

Be patient,

know that sometimes the Black Dog just shows up.

It’s not your fault and you shouldn’t feel responsible.

But be there for them.

I am not saying ignore attempts at self-harm or suicide.

I dream where anyone whose suffering can be treated as they deserve,

with love, compassion and dignity.

I dream that we all will learn to bend and not break.

I dream that we will stop seeing people,

who are down trodden by their issue,

and we will see them as a whole,

not a part.

We all have dreams,

this is one of mine.

So whether you are suffering or trying to help,

Cherise you dreams and the dreams of others.

Believe in them and hold them tight.

And know that the love and compassion of many people are with you,

whether you can see it or not.

Thank you!

I for one, appreciate that. <3

It really isn't easy doing it alone. Not easy at all.
