Play of Life

Darkness enters when all is light.

The actors leave the stage.

Only one stays, he says, "This isn't right."

The man explodes, he's filled with rage.

His anger fills the room and all are filled with fright.

He goes backstage and grabs a knife.

In front of everyone, he stabs himself and clenches tight;

He has just quit the play of life.

We are all actors

In this play of life,

We must all put on the show.

We have a lifetime job

In this play of life,

Where characters all come and go.

A woman stands in the way of fate,

Fate pushes her aside.

Fate does not choose between the low and the great,

The group is one, it can't divide.

The woman falls and comes to rest inside her grave,

And fate continues on its way;

Nothing can block its path, we can just stop and wave,

But it might change on its own one day.

We are all actors

In this play of life,

We must all put on the show.

We have a lifetime job

In this play of life,

Where characters all come and go.

We are all actors

In this play of life,

A play that's quite a thing to see.

Since we all have a part

In this play of life,

You might just share a scene with me.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I was just thinking one day about different things when it hit me, life is like one big play.  Maybe I didn't think of this first, but I hope you still like the poem.  Just one note to anyone who reads this, don't act like the man in the first stanza;  you don't want to quit the play.  Let your role play out to the end, don't cut it short.
