Yes you got the syllable pattern right, but there is more to this Japanese Poetry than syllables. Firstly it must include reference to nature or human emotion and secondly: it must not ever refer to yourself through use of "I", "Me", "My", etc.
Don't people study the poetry form before deciding to use it?
