alone at night
to scribble and scroll
full admiration of
poetic tales told
trying to reach
the inner soul
releasing of fears
far beyond their hold
awake the intellect
dwelling deep within
release the powers
that might have been
words to say with
all my might
words that may ne'er
see the light
many precede me
of them i fright
thus alone i am
alone at night
Your Poem addresses the hard work of poetic creation
Solitude is good for the soul, as Emerson says, and it is essential for the poet. To struggle with words, meanings, symbols, is the poet's craft, her act of creation, bringing new worlds to fruition, new vistas, to spread a layer of fresh rain on the dry soil of the very day and the common, and let the flowers of poetry blossom and fill Te world with beauty and truth. Your poem addresses the hard work of creation, of crafting a poem, which is the result more of hard work than of inspiration, contrary to what most people think. Good write! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you.
Jim,
Thank you for reading and the nice comment. Yes, I agree that writing with tue meaning to oneself is more difficult than inspiration.
I started with incomprehensible letters to friends and esp. my brother, when he was in the Navy and overseas. (back in the 1960's) I always had the scrolls that I tried to put into words for them through this torture . The people I wrote to would write back for explainations. I began to compile the scrolls and tried to write as above.
My words seem to be more understandable. lol.

Indeed!
Yes, the path to good writing is sometimes tortuous and hard to understand. Practice, though, and honesty, as you say, will lead you there.
