"Recent Infinity Sonnet"

by Jeph Johnson

After night has rested through its slumber
I look to the sky, to the stars beyond
In confidence that He has me under
Controlling His universe; I'm so fond
Ruling the nighttime like sun rules the day
In search of a light I am unaware
Ignorant bliss, I don't know what to say
Dark emptiness, I've no more left to share
Like a snake slithers time coiled in a ball
I reach through the basket and poison hits
Getting up faster makes light of my fall
Illuminating venomous clenched fists
Pounding the outcome of deep darkened thought
Recent infinity's yet to be caught
