I know of her love
when I smile
I smile because
I have been
at the receiving end
so many times
in so many forms
I smile because
it's filled my mind
with a theater
of happy memories
that continue running
I smile because
her love
like a fireplace
radiates warmth
unselfishly
I smile because
she has found
and given forgiveness
and displayed humility
by sacrifice
this is love in its noblest form
more smiles than frowns
she comforts with understanding
when no one else can
and miraculously she is able
to pull smiles out of depression
she's expressed nonjudgmental love
in more ways than I can list
to everyone she loves
and that makes me smile
and today I am seeing still another
expression of her love
she is choosing to share
her endearments
with a very special man
who's the perfect blend
of passion and compassion
security and freedom
seriousness and humor
kind thoughtfulness
and practical irreverence
(like when I joke too much,
he snaps right back)
all the things
she deserves
he's renewed her life
and warmed her spirit
and is ready to pursue
happiness with her
and this is how I know of his love:
it's her turn to smile
Those who have given great love receive great love
.. among them are you and your mother and your mate
