A Clever Arrangement

Oh the beauty of a floral arrangement

The many colors and fragrances

So meticulously blended

Many of these I once received

Certainly on every special occasion

Always along with the beautiful flowers

Came notes of "I Love You"

Sometimes for no reason at all

A dozen roses would come my way

The note attached would simply read

"Just Because"

Suddenly the flowers stopped coming

Never another one did I receive

Not even a straggling jonquil

In the early days of spring

Many years later, much to my dismay

I learned my husband had an affair with the florist

It was she, not he, who sent the flowers to me

What a clever way of eluding me

For suspicions I had none

Now I plainly see and I must agree

The floral arrangement was indeed

A very clever arrangement

Tell me this didn't really happen. I could kick and scream for you. You were so clever in your word-trap that I got all the way down to the mention of the florist before I knew. Good job.

Hi Tricia I hope this isn't factual. If so, two thorns down for hubby! Your poem is indeed a clever arrangement of ideas, in compelling story form, building to a shattering conclusion. Again, well done Tricia. I do enjoy your writing style. Fleur

Tricia, I am so sorry this was my first poem that I read in your site. I felt so betrayed, for you, especially after you have been to the one special poem at my site for my love. You wove the story of this infidelity into a very powerful poem, tho. Still, I am hoping this was a LONG time ago and you are somewhat healed. Thank you for visiting my site. I shall go on to read more of your works now. Linda

THis poem struck me very much....for its crippingly sad ending...and the rude awakening of the persona's love... U weaved this story with a frank and forward manner...with a sense of flow and rhythm to it (especially in the 2nd and 3rd stanzas ) well done, tricia. and once again, i thank u for showing and sharing this work...Smilesz. Take care, always. i have thoroughly enjoyed my stay at your hall tonight...hehehe... i look fwd to MORE. :)p
