Lost in Sorrow

On the piano a rose is placed
in remembrance of spiraled time.
Love that was lost way too soon,
when I was young and not as strong.
Now once each year I play her song,
soft as the petals left on the keys.

Wayward sound of striking keys,
where my fingers are sometimes placed.
Still hearing her velvet song,
haunting me till the end of time.
Hopefully I will continue to be strong,
for my love will not end soon.

Heartache in each note too soon,
as I feel each press of keys.
Feeling love that stays so strong,
knowing where these feelings placed.
A tear drop slips out each and every time,
every year when I play this song.

Funny how the breath of a song,
keeps haunting me none to soon.
I play it in three quarter time,
as I stroke the empty keys.
On the piano a rose is placed,
for my love for her still stays strong.

How many years must I be strong,
as I continue my melancholy song.
Forever in my heart she’s placed,
for my love will not end soon.
Hurting in each press of keys,
remembering how short our time.

Now I must embrace this time,
staying strong, staying strong.
Knowing that we share these keys,
as I sit and play our song.
One day I’ll be with you soon,
beside you then I will be placed.

I wait my time with this song,
keeping strong and praying soon
as on the keys a rose placed.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Sestina ........

The sestina is a strict ordered form of poetry, dating back to twelfth century French troubadours. It consists of six six-line (sestets) stanzas followed by a three-line envoy. Rather than use a rhyme scheme, the six ending words of the first stanza are repeated as the ending words of the other five
stanzas in a set pattern. The envoy uses two of the ending words per line, again in a set pattern.........

First stanza, ..1 ..2 ..3 ..4 ..5 ..6 ..............
Second stanza, ..6 ..1 ..5 .. 2 ..4 ..3 ..............
Third stanza, ..3 ..6 ..4 ..1 ..2 ..5 ..............
Fourth stanza, ..5 ..3 ..2 ..6 ..1 ..4 ..............
Fifth stanza, ..4 ..5 ..1 ..3 ..6 ..2 ..............
Sixth stanza, ..2 ..4 ..6 ..5 ..3 ..1 ..............

Concluding tercet ..............
middle of first line ..2, end of first line ..5 ..............
middle of second line ..4, end of second line..3 ..............
middle if third line ..6, end of third line ..1
