A Civil Dinner

6-25-03

Look at us sitting here

Eating together

Aren't we civil?

We can play civil

But I'm tired of playing

So tired of pretending

In a world of pretend

So we just eat

Chat and eat

Try not to soil the

Pretty table cloth

It's white,

As white as I wished

Our souls were

Like they used to be

I didn't want to grow up

To open my eyes

And realize that earth is just

Another kind of Hell

An emotional Hell

Not the physical Hell

Our parents warned us about

Well I deal with pain just

Fine

And as I contemplate this

You continue chewing

Man, this was so deep. I get tired of feeling like that too. Like you have to put on a show for people. Why can't we just be ourselves all the time? Very good piece.

I'm glad you gave me the link; this is by far one of my favorites. There's this whole "falsification of social views and society" air just swimming about it, and it is very well written.

Just thought I'd drop by, and read a little. I really like this poem, you can really apply it to any situation. When you have a deep thought, just look around yourself, and you'll understand all your cynicism perfectly. People are sheep, yet horribly persistant at trying to make you think like them... civilly. Good job.
