YONDER THERE AND BEYOND!

YONDER THERE AND BEYOND!

Desperation drives me nuts as temperature soars high;

Yonder there, amongst the virgin forest, I like to find a safer place!

The deserted house that gave asylum all through the blazing summer;

Stands so tall amongst the wild growth that’s hard to penetrate!

Leaning over the parapet, I get a telescopic vision;

And it gives a glimpse of what’s in nature’s offing!

Never had I seen such a colorfully coated scene;

As it takes me far and beyond my mental reach!

The landscape at distance with symmetrical, paddy fields,

And the mountainous ever blue curtain, as the backdrop!

Oh! It fills my eyes and makes me green with its pastoral beauty;

And I feel as if I have been taken back, to the distant past!

The mist that rises beneath the valley goes up the sky-high trees!

Makes me imagine as if it’s the spontaneous flow of an artesian well!

Oh!  I hate to feel the warmth but like to shudder my shoulders;

As it’s ever so severe and I love to feel its bitterly chill!

The frost bite is like the voracious eat of a bitter, sweet chocolate!

Nevertheless, I like to undergo my likes and dislikes!

Oh! There. Yonder there, I hear the blood hounds’ barking;

As the hare beneath the bushes springs up and runs for life.

It feels so scary as the sneaky snake climbs up the turret;

And after the sprinting sambar, the wild dogs effortlessly chase;

Over there, the lone, two horned tusker wags its tail and sways a bit;

And the squeaking ducks form a ‘V’ shape to fly to safer lands.

Oh! I’m fascinated by the ups and downs of both man and beast;

Excitement in plenty without which, life is pale and stale; and so

You got to walk; you got to run and you got to save your life;

But for which, life’s so dull and passive; as drudgery sets in!

Author's Notes/Comments:

Mr.  Bishu,

I get excited, everytime I get a comment, especially when it is connected to a place (Coonoor, near Ooty) where I happened to spend a long, long time!  May be years together I was there with my family, enjoying the cold weather.  Even last week, I was in Kodaikanal (Another hill station in Tamilnadu) for a few days.  That was what made me write this poem.  I had literally climbed up quite a few hills by foot a few times as I love hill climbing the most.  Thanks for making a mention of Ooty and Dodabetta!  Nature's beauty and its weather, I suppose nothing can match!

Nice write Mr Ben

Nice write Mr Ben.Mr Ruskin Bond a world famous writer lives in Mussorie.But again,Sir I dont agree that climate influences quality of writing or rather any performance.But Nature is obviously a great motivator for poets.But total solitude may cause some conkiness.I know of poets who like to be gregarious to get material for writing.I think Ooty in the Niligiris in TNadu may be a getaway for some time.I visited the place for a few days two years ago.I specially enjoyed the "spicy" aroma of the Niligiri tree forest.But my ears began aching at Doddabeta Peak because of the chilly wind.Moreover Sir "The other side always appear more inviting" However,overall physical endurance is less in warmer climes.But Sir I have met people who sit here in non-AC rooms without a fan , no windows wearing a two piece cotton suit and tie.How is that possible? We are very special...humans I mean. Sorry for this long treatise... Just B Happy Sir
