GENTLEMAN-SOLDIER-POET

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

he pulls me near
with such exemplary grace
a true gentleman dear
walking an enlightened path
not so common to the every day
human race
deeply introspective
with kindness as his badge
a fierce protector at heart
I dare state
but to his 22 there is never any real catch
I smile at such genuine blessing
God has just this last week granted me
by dropping this 'Gentleman-Soldier-Poet'
from so far away into my poetic lap
such plumbing of a modern well leading to
the realms of the higher self
these constructs of my spirit
have new and improved scaffolding to better
prop me up and help
layers lain gently with common cloth
over a core so genuine
his spirit of friendship is the canary
safely exiting the coal mine
we are given tools in common objects
I do solemnly believe
but also tools via other wiser,
helpful souls
God wishes for us to meet
a thousand blessings more
in this one individual
I feel he has lain at my feet
thank you my humble servant and friend
you are gold in another wise cheap world to me
who's true value could never be revealed
a falcon in sparrow's clothing
safely guarding the good from evil...............

  These words were deeply

These words were deeply intense and introspectively feverish to me; although, that was probably not your perceptual intent. It strikes home with intimations of noble innocence, placidness, but still has the aura of prowling, potentially mortal sacrifice that is all too often unobserved and easily forgotten.  I applaud your impregnating words and permeating praise of this soldier. His halcyon mannerism, tranquility of spirit, and humble willingness to fight (if need be die) for causes he ardently logics are righteous, but does not fully fathom - at times. Underneath this calm soldier’s unspoken behaviors is a latent sadness (I believe) civilians cannot imagine or fully comprehend. A soldier will spy its poetic purity as well as traces of melancholy noncombatants will find impossible to appreciate or understand. I am a former combat U.S. Marine. Thank you for writing this piece. I found this to be a gigantic poem one could extrapolate to be the essence of countless men (and woman) who step forward to fight for this country… with only a miniscule of concern or external recognition.

Wow. what stunning praise...........

Thank you for such a deeply thought out reply. You humble me greatly and I hope others who served such as yourself read it and can know how very thankful I am personally for everyone's service. I am often keenly aware of other's sacrifice and try to thank individuals without much fan fair for their service. I wrote another a few poems before this one about meeting a soldier and I titled it , 'I Thanked A Soldier Today' you might be interested to read that one as well. Most of my life at some time or another I have been blessed to know men who have served in our armed forces and have seen combat. I'm always humbled to know that by gaining their friendship I was allowed into very intimate parts of their lives at very painful and fearful times.  For I believe if one is to be a friend they should really be a friend and not just some fun and games fair weather friend but really be there for the dark dour and dirty spells as well. We are only as wise as our wounds and like everything else pain and fear are remarkable teachers. Pass through any harsh fire and a stronger individual emerges. Again thank you truly so very much for your comments. I assure you with no vanity or ego raised I wish you a very good night.............Sincerely, M.

This is really a very beautiful tribute to your friend, and I believe that too. ~peace~

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Thank you HW

I laugh cause I read this to a friend of mine earlier today and she said it sounded a lot like her marine uncle. Must be a universal poem if it sounds like someone others know. I love that. Two people saying almost the same thing to me, it must be kismet...............Thanks for the input. My night is getting better and better. Sincerely, M............
