poking around in a promise
a dumpster diver of deeds
a lot of melodramatic hog wash
squeamish at the sight of blood
such mystery feeds
garish proposals
over mediocre mishaps
boardwalk type bravery
clashing over some willowy
innocent brunette
disputes amid tussles
of teenage angst
wayward youth gets pawned
in the hustle and tug of mistrusted
truth
life is not high school
it's grittier, uglier
and far more complicated
but the answer is never putting
down the school books
to trade knowledge in for a knife
as regret leaves invisible scars
on the psyche
never to fully heal................

Author's Notes/Comments:
Okay, I'll freely admit it has been decades since I last watched West Side Story on television as an early teen one boring Sunday afternoon but from what little I could recall this poem came to me.
That is why I put maybe as I might be confusing other movies with it. Like some collage of a few other movies. I use to watch so many on the Super Station. ( what is now Turner or TNT) Anyway, enjoy and if I am way off base on the premise of the story of West Side Story then clobber me about it in comments. Plus , keep in mind this was just my opinion on it and I am using memories from the view point of a mid teen mind. Scary as that may seem.............. laughs.
