Loggerhead Shrike

from taut barbed wire

Black-capped, scolding chickadees
and dark-eyed rodents:
beware the bandit-masked
and hook-beaked butcher bird.

I just saw this comment

Sorry it's a few years for me to reply. Loggerhead shrikes impale their prey on barbed wire, thorns, and other things as a way of storing food to be eaten later.
