When was it she stopped laughing?
The day her hopes had died?
The time her father broke her magic?
The way her parents lied?
When was it she stopped crying?
When all her dreams went black?
The time her sister left her?
Never coming back?
When was it she stopped praying?
The day God let her down?
The very same day he took her away,
Leaving her with that frown?
When was it she stopped hoping?
The time her wish was dead?
Leaving her so broken,
Waiting on her bed?
When was it we stopped listening?
To stop hear her out?
To wait and care and feel for her?
To know and hear her shout?
When was it she stopped feeling?
To really give a damn?
When was it she stopped believing,
In this lie of life, this sham?
When was it she stopped laughing?
Even though she's just a girl?
She's taken on demons all on her own,
Because we've hid her from the world.
So I stopped and thought
About all the things
We haven't seen her do
And among all of the thousands
I know her the best
Smiling is one of the few
I really like this one too. I love how many questions there are! My favourite lines are "So I stopped and thought
About all the things We haven't seen her do". It's so cool because the poem reminds me of how much human potential a person can have, but if tragedy or hurt overwhelms a person they can lose something.. maybe the drive to do all the things you haven't seen her do.
I thought more about it and realised those lines can mean so much more - they could be read differently by someone else.. as if all the things you haven't seen her do actually refer to her times of struggle that she mayeb never showed anyone.
Very good, I like it :)
