They're not worth the breath it takes
To pledge them all as true,
No better than the heart that vows,
Are promises to you.
I've heard them all before, I guess
But I didn't learn a thing.
Since when I hear your promises,
My heart begins to sing.
I know that what we have today
Is solid and it's real.
That's why your word to me creates
The warmth that I now feel.
I'll make a promise of my own,
And give it, Love, to you.
I'll love you til the day I die.
I hope MY word will do.
How beautiful.
And despite the pain of broken promises on his part, you bare your soul to make a promise that you mean, that you will keep.
How brave. How touching.
Will he learn, ever?
I do so enjoy your poems Jessica. I relive parts of my life as I read them. Thank you for your poetry.
