people use love

an arbitrary word



they love their spouses

like they love chili on their hotdogs



the beatles

sang “all you need is love”

and “love is all you need”



then why didn’t love

keep them from breaking up?



I once saw graffiti on

the wall of a cubicle

in the school library



“I hate love”

etched onto the wood

underneath it read, “try loving

what you hate”



it’s easy to love, love

but it’s even easier to hate it
