Ongoing Story

Lena was growing restles. She had been waiting over twenty minutes for her father to appear and still he hadn't. Several men, both those she knew and others that she had never seen or even heard of had approached her to dance or even just to simply talk, although it was pointless to even try. This didn't stop them though, they continued to come to her, doing their best for even a glance. She had even decided on ascending the stairs and look for him, but as she sttod there came the sound of the trumpets, announcing his late arrival. He made his way down the stairs, extravagently garbed in lush black velvet fringed with gold. The jewels around his neck and on his fingers posessed stones of Jade and Ruby.

His prescence caused everyone to instantly become silent as he made his way down, stopping only two steps from the floor. Everyone turned to him, forgetting their conversations simply to stare. Rainlan looked over the crowd and they all waited, nervous but also eager to hear him speak. When his voice finally came, it was strong. "Welcome all to my home. I am happy to see that so many of you were able to attend this despite the sand storm." he paused, his straight face turning into a full smile. "Well what are you all silent for? This is a celebration!Enjoy!" Just as his last words came form his mouth and echoed throughout the hall, the drums burst into a fast and merry beat, causing the conversations and drinking to once more commence.

Rainlan, upon seeing that all had gone back to their conversations, decended the remaining two stairs and immediately spied his daughter on the right side, watching him almost suspiciously he thought. She did look beautiful in her gown, much like his sister had at her age. She was always so stubborn as well, he remembered. Lena was much the same. She insisted that she would mary if and when she wanted to do so, and only because she loved the man she did. He might not have actually opposed at all if she had tried to do this sooner. It was she who refused, and her that was forcing him to do what he was about to.

As he reached her, he laid a hand on her shoulder and smiled "Lena, this is a celebration, you should not be standing here alone as if your a widow in mourning. Go and enjoy yourself, this is all for you, all of it." Lena simply stepped back and bowed, answering him with "Yes, of course father." Her tone was so obvoiusly sarcastic and cautious that hs had to restran himself from calling her both insolent and disrespectful. But she walked away, her spine rod-straight as she forced herself not to look back at him.

She had to admit to herself that she couldn't figure him out. She had no idea what he was planning to do and that was what bothered her the most. But it had to be something big because he had never gone to such great lengths to control her life. She was determined to look out for herself, she wouldn't lose.
