To Quiet His Gaze

                   Cold stare

                        Cursing everything...

                     Everyone in its path.

                   A tug at her heart

                           and a painful emptiness

                   inside her chest.

                           Beautiful,

                              They called her once.

                   No, she thought, never again.

                           But the cold gaze

                         Continues to pierce her body.

The hole it leaves continues to

                               grow...

                                  She closes her eyes.

                   Once more, she concedes.

                            She lies down beside him.

                   She kisses him

                                 Until he rolls her

                   Over and breathes

                                 crocadile love

                             into her.

Her body is numb to this

                                 all too familiar dance.

                   His touches here and there

                             Suddenly, it hits her

                          Moments too late

                             Just as he takes

                   What it is he wants.

                          Then he rolls over

                   and gives her a smile.

                          The piercing coldness is gone...

                        For now from his eyes.

A new pain has taken her now

                        From offering her beauty

                  to subdue

                       his painful stares.
