"A mother's gift"

“ A Mother’s Day gift?!?”

I sit here distressed without money to buy my mother a gift on a beautiful Mother’s Day!

But, then I think about the true meaning for the day and I am comforted in the warmest way.

I think back on memories of what every Mother’s Day meant to my mother, and how it brought joy to her heart just to hear my voice.

Somehow she’s pleased by my existence, my safekeeping, success and that I try my best to always make the right choice!

It still amazes me of how much she cares!

Never a moment will I doubt that my mother will be there!

Despite troubles of her own she is constantly extending her helping arm.

She’s example of a selfless soul whose contributions to life are guarded by God’s restriction to harm.

Thank you for insisting that I make the best out of my situations and to always look ahead.

Thanks for the nights you went without just to allow your children to be fed.

Thanks for telling me my rights from wrongs!

Thanks for introducing me to church and spirituality; my life has truly been changed by gospel songs!

Thanks for instilling wisdom and intelligence in me your child who didn’t finish school.

Thanks for not criticizing me for my mistakes and for reminding me that even without a degree I’m far from a fool.

Thanks for telling me you’d care for me even when I didn’t think to care for myself.

Thanks for not just telling me things would be all right but for also providing the confidence I felt!

Thanks for looking at me for more than what meets the eye.

Thanks for being my supportive ear to talk to about troubles that concern me without asking why.

Thanks for allowing me to see for myself that it doesn’t take a father in my life to show me how to conduct myself.

Thanks for being the window that instructed me how to handle the cards of life I’ve been dealt.

Thanks for not being disappointed in me for being a man who will never produce you a grand child.

Thanks for keeping me focused on my goals when I detour from my plans every once in a while!

I love the way you love me and how you have shown me what family is for.

I have learned to mirror your unconditional love as I am constantly opening my once closed doors.

Mom I hope to continue to give you the gift of pride!

I want every thought you have of me to be apparent with a smile you can never hide!

I promise to always extend you the same love you’ve shown me like the song said “No Charge”!

Knowing you like I do I know you’ll look at my acknowledging poem to you as a gift quite large!

On this day though I am not able to buy you a fancy present as an additional token of my appreciation, I know you will understand.

Please know that not a day goes by that I am not eternally grateful to you my African queen; the woman who showed me how to be a man!
