Counterfeit Love

Society They isolate themselves
with their computer screens
where real people are replaced
by airbrushed images.
Relationships are discarded
in favor of counterfeit love;
the risk of rejection becomes
the reason for seclusion.
No matter how good it feels
to rely on self-satisfaction,
shame and regret are constants
for the rest of their lives.
Fear of getting caught is
not the ideal existence,
hiding in the shadows of
their guilt-ridden sin.
If only real love could find
these trapped, lonely people
and bring them out of the pain
that made them detach themselves.
