Working Class Hero

Folder:
Society

You think you’re self-made,

but you’re all the same

like products on an assembly line

laboring for today’s dime.

You toil daily for the man

who doesn’t care about your plans;

you think you’re living free

but you’re begging on your knees.

Liberty is a lie you’re fed

until the day you’re dead.

You are just a modern-day slave

being led to your grave.

Oh such brainwashed humans

working towards a retirement plan,

but by the time you get there

they’ll have left you bare.

The American dream is gone;

you’re just one of their pawns.

Just blindly following their rules,

they laugh at you like a fool.

You’re not a working class hero;

you’re just an insignificant zero.

Want to die their marionette

or maximize the time that’s left?

Stand out from the crowd;

scream for justice out loud.

Don’t rely on stereotypes;

don’t listen to their hype.

Stay away from the tabloids.

They’re just society’s steroids:

spreading gossip like a disease

by keeping your attention seized.

Don’t pay heed to the rumors;

don’t be another consumer.

Stop wasting all your income

on that ungrateful scum.

You’re worth more than those

who look down their nose.

You have less wealth than they,

but you won’t die a cliché.

You’ll be remembered for

not supporting their wars

because you believed in harmony

not making more money.

Rewrite 2012

You think you’re self-made,
but you’re all the same
like products on an assembly line,
laboring for today’s dime.

You toil daily for the man
who doesn’t care about your plans;
you think you’re living free,
but you’re begging on your knees.

Liberty is a lie you’re fed
until the day you’re dead.
You are just a modern-day slave
being led to your grave.

Oh such brainwashed humans
working towards a retirement plan,
but by the time you get there
they’ll have left you bare.

The American dream is gone;
you’re just one of their pawns.
Blindly following their rules,
they laugh at you like a fool.

You’re not a working class hero
nor are you an insignificant zero.
Want to die their marionette
or maximize the time that’s left?

Stand out from the crowd;
scream for justice out loud.
Don’t rely on stereotypes;
don’t listen to their hype.

Stay away from the tabloids.
They’re just society’s steroids:
spreading gossip like a disease
by keeping your attention seized.

Don’t pay heed to the rumors;
don’t be another consumer.
Stop wasting all your income
on such unnecessary scum.

You’re worth more than those
who look down their nose.
You have less wealth than they,
but you won’t die a cliché.

You’ll be remembered for
not supporting their wars
because you believed in harmony
not in making more money.
