The clouds graze
Casting their fluttering gaze on the earth
The earth peals its lies through its teeth
As inchworm struggles on through
Middle hinge bends like the equator
The wind-up toys chatter and wander
Flatter and clutter
Clutter the earth
Inchworm’s curse upon the shoeshine parlor’s snore
Chuckles like the cloud’s pouring bore
Knocking on my bedtime door
Whispering secrets
As I hold the stars in my hand
Sleeping in my arms
As I descend from the million-piece jigsaw puzzle
Trailing the clouds that graze the speckled sky
Daintily woven in the moonlight…
