Right As Rain

Ever blue and ever gray

Dust collects and settles

In the drear of the day

And the attic of my mind

Refused a decent meal

As the rainstorm calms

The soil soaks it up

Like a sponge scrubbing all the clutter up

Brush your teeth till wintered white

Make sure not to miss a spot

Or crack a crackled smile cross the page

Just to squeeze right by

Like river-rain

Ever blue ever gray

Creeping down the drain to hide

Till the toil of cruel autumn

Sheds its skin like paper

Dried and hardened is the clay

Not welcoming the river surfacing

As eastward as the dawn can stretch

I shall look and wait

For the simple summer sway

Ever blue Ever gray

Making me but right as rain
