We Hear but do We Listen?

Most of us,

Rather hear now and then,

But don’t listen,

Being almost fake, thus.

Some of us ignore,

The azan,

Some prefer fun,

To the church timer.

The children don’t listen to the parents,

The same does happen with the students.

Author's Notes/Comments:

‘Hear’ means to notice sounds coming through ears but ‘listen’ refers to the paying attention to the sounds. However, opinions may vary; I have not tried to draw a sweeping generalisation here. In the 6th line, 'Azan' is the Islamic call to prayer. I hope you like the poem.

we all need freedom from what

we all need freedom from what contains and sustains us. un ending obediencce is impossible. This is a very onerous task. I pray many times a day. for many different things and people. organised prayer is not so often. you can honour by what is in your heart rather than being seen to do what is expected. God is a mystery to us no matter how much we think it is revealed to us in scriptures. if God leads one astray for the greater good we often do not see it. we  often criticise and do not understand why or how much the cost is. But God knows all and understands all. we must not judge but go our own path. you never know when God is at work. even if it seems not. I enjoyed thinkiing about your poem. I am driven to be different from my own religious rituals. yet, I feel I honour God more with my service. I may be wrong. I will know if I listened well enough in the end. we all will. peace and blessings to you. :)

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

  A reflective poem I

A reflective poem I enjoyed reading very much. I think most people listen to what is said but their interrpritation of following advice does not always seem so. So many people, so many ways to evaluate the same advice. By the way what is azan, please?

Listen and hear...yes two

Listen and hear...yes two different things. To listen with empathy...to strive to reach a heart connection with another, and not just hear words. To hear the depth of one's heart and soul, and connect through your own heart...that is listening. I am listening to you...although, I do not believe in churches, but in a supreme entity of which we are all connected through...and in fact, we "are", together, that supreme entity or "force".

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "
