hunched man on the corner
with a wheelchair-bound woman
and two children covered in smog
beside them
he yelled "kill the billionaire"
and, while not one for violence -
devout to peacful resistence -
i can't lie, I did the math
the hoarding of every billionaire
adds thousands of deaths
but, instead,
we kill each other on the streets
over the ideas where we disagree
over the color of our skin
over the ways we like to dress
over what we put in our bodies
over the ways we like to have sex
disagreements
or, perhaps, let's call it disease
all billionaire-owned
news media outlets
just so happen to help spread
and, so, I wonder
with eight dollars in my pocket
would I be wrong, my friends,
to give a dollar for each family member
and the other four to help fund
his plans for a vaccine
to stop the ravaging illness of greed
An urgent call for a more
An urgent call for a more egalitarian, a more civilized, worldview. I was struck by your inventive, poignant and visionary approach to the subject. Nothing stale or preachy here! Perhaps it all begins in the heart of a true Poet.
Well said!
Thank you very much,
Thank you very much, Patricia. I try to use poems like these to challenge and test the limits of my perception and beliefs, and see what holds up and where I could grow. It's a great blessing when the words strike someone else, too. Especially someone with the dignity and grace you demonstrate.
