Till It's Eclipse Time

Folder:
In The Years Since

how you long to escape the sunshine

begging for an eclipse,

you'd settle for a cloud

an albatross not happy to see itself

you fly off the pier

searching across calm waters

far and wide

for brutal waves

to wash you under, wash you away

from the smile that always betrays

when you get comfortable

with it on your face

i like the glow of your joy

breaking through with a new dawn

reaching to brush back hair

strands from your perking cheeks

you just push my hand away

it's okay,

it's not that there's a blight

on the fruit,

either way

but you long to escape the sunshine

begging for an eclipse

you'd settle for a cloud

lightning in a bottle

to drink up,

get the shock over with

and drown

for brutal waves

to wash you under, wash you away

from a smile that always betrays

why live, you say,

when you have to die?

i guess it's simple, to me,

since we have to meet death,

either way

so come and live with me,

till then

fill our memories with sight,

till it's eclipse time

One of the beauties of poetry

One of the beauties of poetry is that as we fade into eternity what remains of ourselves shall have been given the opportunity to live on in our poetry.

That can be, yes. I'm on the fence about words living on, seeing as how often the dead are misquoted to support misdeeds of the living, and other times their words censored and replaced with a new voice that takes their old name ; )

As am I for the very same implications and possibilities. But I realise that this gift of articulation can and has been utilised for centuries and find that it could be very 'easy' to join in the merry swill. With so many avenues and venues these days, any revisers or misquoters and flamers even will find themselves put to the task if they so much as deign to besmirch you. As it has been said, (paraphrase) sufficient to the day is the trouble it brings with it.
