Gotta Give It To The Man

I have painted blood

on the hands of my enemy

Dipping brush in the sands that I have previously soaked

With the parts of what were once

children,

families

elders who knew the past

I'll rewrite it now

In the black ink

I pump from the ground

And etch a new 'truth' in stone

As I remove gems from the third world

Join me in blaming their barbaric ways as they go hungry

But Woe to those who challenge my authority

Democracy, afterall, is a smoke screen

Late stage authoritarianism, is all it is

If voting mattered, like that funny dead guy said,

I wouldn't let you do it

But, hey,

Giving you that feelings, so pleasant, of class participation

Means you'll ignore the relentlessness of all my atrocities

You've signed off on, to avoid feeling guilty -

Isn't that clever?

Oh, and that piece of paper

Full of promises

I can get around a silly,

Yellowed constitution

Merely by privatizing your freedoms

And, if all else fails,

Shouting out a timeless classic -

"War! It's Us versus Them!"

Who do you hate now? I bet you it's not me...

(Though perhaps it should be)

Gotta give it to The Man

And The Man, you see,

Runs every country

Across every sea

Don't misunderstand

Don't think I've said

There are any good guys,

In the end

Author's Notes/Comments:

David Mason got the first half right in his classic We Just Disagree when he sung out "there ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy".

Well, really, I think that, between two 'regular' individuals, he got it right. Most people, what ever they believe today, yesterday or tomorrow, believe they've got it right. But in the macro, the second half of that lyric doesn't work.

"In The Macro"

.

Not the man, the woman! Okay, enough anti sexist ranting - donnot want to be labelled the bad femme. On the whole, they come and they go, control shifts - peons and serfs travel not at those altitudes. Shell near Poland and snap open eyelashes over historically savvy viewpoints. Shut-outs, oh only since 1719 for some.
.

Democracy is no smoke screen, let's be clear on this. He is a seven dollar hoe sellin ' ass to anyone who will go down for a dip! Freedom is a vamp with no morality, sellin' at inflationary prices, singing "Take me down, you gotta lovely face!"
.

The Them are blame's target because the disorganized are innocent? Naw. I wear my guilt openly and proudly. I bought the hook the line and want a third sinker. We follow wallowingly willing. It is how civilization evolved and chinks, aka looppits, were exploited, fortified, and declared alright norm. Buy a Senate, a State House, sexy. Money is Emperor - ask any Oligarch with frozen or hunted assets. Change the laws (or enforce them) and behavior follows. True, with such gods on platinum thrones, few are granted audience.

.

They said work hard, win - so why am I lower middle after all that sweat? We construct our coffins and walk around with a spade  on our shoulder for chip-shoveling. Live behind high security against assassins and thieves and you tend to become a wee bit jumpy.

Nice Poem.

Thank you.

Oh, "The Man" is more and more becoming "The Woman", don't worry. We can look forward to an equal opportunity abuse in the future, at least equal opportunity among the men and women born in the right-sized mansions.

Outside of children, I nod to you that there are no innocent parties to the world's woes. But the burden of responsibility for our err's is not nearly so fairly distributed, of course. Intentionally built faulty airplanes that kill hundreds of people, draw a fine, maybe have one scapegoat in the company charged. But go and be the guy or gal who makes faulty repairs on a rich man's car and see if you even make it past the "getting taken out behind the shed" phase to a trial date.

Or lie about alternate treatments to a disease and be a billionaire or a corporate news station, no problem. No need to apologize when it turns out that the "horse paste" actually would have saved a million lives or more, as studies have now proven. But be a "regular person" with a small following online and 'spread misinformation' (which may turn out not to be misinformation, ie. that supposed "horse paste") and have your ability to communicate, as well as perhaps make a living, cut off.

Yes, there's no innocent, but we do have a huge problem with distribution of responsiblity, and weird enough, it seems to correlate very strongly with the huge problem we have with distribution of wealth. Weird, right? ; )

Selling out, indeed. Politician is a job description. Whores for the ruling class bidders. People often look down on sanitation workers, as if they are the garbage rather than the takers away of garbage. Maybe we ought to realize, all together, who the garbage is and ask our sanitation workers to take them away : )

Let's disproportionately return the garbage to the garbage creaters - those mansions have huge lawns that would make nice landfills.
