I understand your pain,

The joy that lies within my name,

Every letter that you caress,

A vowel sound where there is one less,

You break voice on top of mine,

And sing as our lives untwine.

I broke your heart and don’t you see,

You never really needed me,

I taught the dance and bought your shoes,

Now, even without me, you cannot lose,

I’m sorry you see this as a catastrophic event,

And for the love letters I never sent.

I wasn’t able to erase our conversations from my phone,

Or remove your letters from my home,

I only speak the truth now, I miss you,

But not the way you want me to,

I ended the relationship early,

And it wasn’t you, it really was me.

I know you think I ruined your life,

That all you will ever know is worry and strife,

But your friends all around you, surrounded in love,

And I know you will make it when push comes to shove. 

I love you and always will,

And I don’t blame you for hating me still,

But I wish friends didn’t come with this tag on the back,

The façade that we weren’t once more than this.
