Early in the morning,
walking down a narrow path with pebbles slipping beneath my sandals,
I hear sea gulls softly crying to one another as they find their breakfast.
just smelling the salty ocean makes one ravenous for a large deluctable meal.
there are small trees all around,
but they scarcely give one shade from the tormenting rays of the sun.
the ocean waves,
like music,
can charm a wild beast as the waves crash against the shore,
sending mist into the air.
the sand,
so soft and warm,
sends a feeling of sinking into a warm bathtub as you lie down in it.
there are no footprints in the sand yet,
the waves washed them all away over night.
I look around in the shallow water for pretty things:
shells that might catch my attention or maybe a rock or two,
a piece of sea glass rubbed down soft till it seems to glow,
maybe a star fish, clinging to a rock as the waves crash over it,
trying to free it from its domain.
as i walk back and forth across the beach, things come to life:
the birds have realized it is morning and finally sing their songs,
the little dog in the next camp ground begins to bark at the gulls,
the parents awaken to build camp fires for breakfast,
kids whine about being hungry and wanting to go swimming.
the world has awaken.
later in the day,
everyone has eaten and changed their clothes,
they all rush to be first on the beach
to swim and enjoy the sun.
some are fishing,
some are building sand castles,
some are sun tanning,
some are swimming in the ocean,
all are enjoying the beach.
they dont know that i beat them to the beach...
haha...
i win.

Classic... I'm finding myself reading it a few times just to laugh the ending. And the landscape description is appealing.
Appreciate your poetry, its refreshing.
This is a very lovely poem, i love the images and the ending makes me smile. Good job.
Still the best......
