On Being Ugly

I look in the mirror
And see narrow shoulders and thins arms.
A face that only a mother could love.
The bags under my eyes could carry
A week's worth of laundry
And the spaces in my mouth
I've often thought of renting.
My hair doesn't  grow
It explodes
And I don't like to shave
Because the razor might slip.

Once in a while
I put new shoes on my feet
And  a smile on my face
Kidding myself I look real smooth.
I put shades over my eyes
And slick back my hair.
Weekly I chance fate
And slide a blade across my face.

I do this all
In hope of catching the pretty girl's eye.
But the day I do
I'm hungover and unkept.
Fustrated and alone I go home.
I look into the mirror.
And accept the way I am.

I'm not beautiful, but,
What I see, in others, is.

perceptions

I believe our perceptions of ourselves, are so altered from what others see, because we believe ourselves to be seperate and alone. To be alone is to be in fear, for the natural state of the world is duality... up, down,  good, bad... left, right.... him,  her.....me,you.... We have been so fully conditioned to believe that we are seperate from eachother, from the world, that it seems impossible that we might have anything in common with something so wonderfully amazing, because our own personal value has been so diminished and trodden upon... when you can see yourself, the same way the UNIVERSE sees you, then you will see your own beauty and realize, it was there all along :)

I think one of the most

I think one of the most common and painful things going on in the world today, is how very little we seem to acknowledge or even accept, our own beauty --- :) This touched a very deep chord in me. Thank you for sharing! Blessings.

It seems very difficult for

It seems very difficult for us to believe what others think of us (good or bad).  Why is our perception of ourselves so altered?
