Fireflies

Folder:
Nature

Imagine , in each candle winks a firefly
But fails to light the moonless sky
It tries to light the black beyond.
A subtle wink but makes no bond.

Like stars that light the dark of mist
They bright the night and at times, insist
Made fragile to the point of thin
whispered promises to a place within

For all the tunnels turn and twist
Absorb the light within the mist.
And night returns with each new out
Returning fear and all its doubt

But now I see a fatal blow
These candles turning all to snow
And melting in a future strange
A world where everything will change

This change will have no fireflies
No candle winks or butterflies.
But if I could I’d wish tonight
To make candles burn into one grand light

To light the world that is my plea
It is my prayer that all may see.
