Please don't be so cold with me
Your disappointment I can see.
I'm sorry that I let you down,
But let me explain
--don't shut me out.
I realized what you mean to me
You're sweet, your kind and so unique.
I wasn't ready and weirded out
But since then found I have no doubt-
That with you is where I want to be
.....come take my hand and venture with me.
When emotions and passion become fleeting reality, we then realize that love in its truthful sense is all we need to be whole. An explication of the anguish we face in human conflict. Realistic poem, Stephanie! The following line says it all: "That with you is where I want to be ...come take my hand and venture with me." Let me also remind the previous critic: DW Stevenson that poetry is not about perfect metrics: Poetry is expression of human thoughts, whether, this thought is "recollected in tranquility" through powerful feelings as William Wordsworth declared; or in despair, joy, love sorrow, life experiences, nature, etc is another issue. This poem also reminds me of my own poem of the same title: AWAKENING: Thank you so much Stephanie for bluntly weaving this poem.
This is the second time I came back to this same poem. It's not metrically perfect but there is something about it that is haunting to me and defies description. Maybe it's about the complexities of a relationship and some of the conflicting emotions that accompany it that you describe here. At any rate, I like it...hey, I read it twice!
