A Poem About Not Writing A Poem

I’ve tried for a week, but the words that I seek,

seem distant, elusive, and far.

While searching my brain, for poetic refrain,

nothing comes forth, how bizarre.

It’s happened before, this state I abhor,

a blankness of sorts, writers block.

But I’m sure that in time, I’ll think of a rhyme,

and open my heads mental lock.

I’ll write about love, that’s sent from above,

heartache, or sorrow or fear.

These words from my soul, resist my control

to compose, so it would appear.

It’s a confounded curse,  I can’t find a verse,

nor poem or prose which to write.

So I’ll stare at my keys, with elbows on knees,

awaiting an end to my plight.

Writers block is an illusion.

I'm going to tell you something you could agree or disagree with, but use and tell your friends if it works- it's to help.

But before I go on, this is a great poem; I like the rhyme- it's not forced at all, it flowed well; you couldn't have done better that what you have with this one poem.

Ok now to continue. usually when people write ("usually") they write about themselves; stories of their past times, little things here and there and then weave it into a poem.
But every writer knows, after years, there isn't much about one's self; to write about your own experiences would be a cliche to bore you, and maybe your audience- so what do you do?

Never use the word "I", in poetry or in reality- this helps because if you did not use the word "I" or any word referring to yourself, your life will no longer be about yourself- your life would be everything else. Let's say that you use this little writing method, you come across a friend on an instant messaging software. You say Hey, your friend says the same. Now pretend that at this moment there is something itching your anger, should you say "I'm angry"? No, ask your friend how he/she is doing- if they are curtious they will ask about you, if they aren't they are self centered... if they ask then go ahead and use the words that refer to yourself; you wouldnt be held accountable for self indulgence if they ask.

By not using the word "I" you are apart of everything, your poetry will no longer need a story line; you will be able to create it. It's like writing your own story to your own life in a way, you make the rules, nothing needs to happen as long as you think of everything but yourself.

And no, I'm not calling you self centered, this is just a method I use when I fall into writers block; with a little patience and a change of dialect, I know I'd have a poem in no time; a different world I could visit whenever I wanted to.

Again I am not insulting you- Keep in mind this poem was enjoyable to me.
