I remember when we first met
If then I'd only knew
We were only together a while
But my heart will always be true
For now you're just my sleeping beauty
Dressed in billowing white
You were destined for greatness
But doomed to the never ending night
He was overly possessive
He thought you belonged to only him
So when you tried to leave
He ended it all on a whim
He shattered every dream you had
He cut them like a knife
He took away my happiness
The day he took your life
And now you're just my sleeping beauty
Dressed in billowing white
You could have known such greatness
But were doomed to the never ending night
And now all I am left with
Are my memories of you
And I wait the shadowy night
For my dreams to come true
For only when the night comes
May I know your embrace
And as the morning light flickers
You vanish without a trace
For now you're just my sleeping beauty
Dressed in billowing white
You were destined for such greatness
But doomed to the never ending night
Now I long for the never ending night.
Author's Notes/Comments:
This was written a long time ago when I was 17. I had married my first husband, which fyi was an arranged marriage. I wanted to marry another, but my mom had ran him off so I finally agreed to marry her choice. Well, as soon as I was married, the one I wanted started writing again. My then husband didn't approve and could be abusive at times, so I wrote this poem from the other guy's perspective. Of course, he didn't wait for me and married another... originally written in 1995
