There is a girl
Who has been crying
So many tears
For a million years
She collects broken hearts
And lines them up
On her shelf as souvenirs
She only asks for a taste
Of amazing love
She would gladly pay the price
Of the moon and sky above
A look into a pair of eyes
A touch deep within her heart
It's all just a very tiny part
Of what she really wants
But it's a start
There?s a man
Standing in the shadows all alone
Cold wet streets, unfriendly faces
This has always been his home
He looks past what you and I can see
It's just a wish at what the future
Could turn out to be.
He wants to see himself someday
In a beautiful home with a lovely wife
And a child on the way
Coming home to the smell of dinner
A welcome kiss at the door
This is all he asks for
Just this and nothing more
A dog walks against the walls
Of darkened streets
Looking in the corners
For a bite to eat
It's fur is matted
Cold and wet
It howls at the thoughts
It cannot forget
A life not so long ago
With blankets, food and toys
An open door and curiosity
Deafening the sound
Of laughing girls and boys
There are so many faces
In some familiar places
They question their existence
They long to feel what it is to live
If you are stopped and asked
What answer would you give?
