Three Ravens

Three ravens sitting in a tree

Clacking and squawking and laughing at me

I looked to the ravens up in the tree

"Why oh why, are you laughing at me?"

Down upon me they flew and back to the tree

And they started once more laughing at me

I picked up a stone and looked toward the tree

"Very soon I'll be the one laughing - you'll see!"

Hearing this, all the ravens up in the tree

Just laughed all the harder, the harder at me!

I flung the stone with all of my might

And away it flew true to my sight

Two ravens sitting in a tree

Clacking and squawking and laughing at me

Another stone and what should I see?

A single black raven alone in the tree.

What action do you think, takes he?

Clacking and squawking and laughing at me!

I look around but to my sorrowed dismay

There are no more stones where the others once lay

Oh but this raven up in the tree!

Constantly laughing, laughing at me!

Perhaps by the stream another round stone

I'll fling it so hard I'll shatter his bones!

I look to the stream and with a wandering eye

I catch my reflection and what do I spy?

There on my face just above my lip

A bold line from the milk I did sip!

Now there's a raven up in a tree

Only this time I join him down by the stream

Giggling and laughing, laughing at me.
