A Friend Indeed

Folder:
Serious Poems

Since our childhood days, we’ve been good friends.

Whenever we quarrelled, we’d make amends.

I confided in you when times were bad;

You offered cheer when I was sad.

To my romantic ventures you were privy,

And wise advice you gave to me.

One thing, though, I never expressed.

But now, I must lay my mind to rest.

The one I cared for most of all,

The one for whom I’ve desperately called,

That special someone who keeps me strong

Has been right beside me all along.

Though my desires left me forlorn,

I was kept mute by fear of your scorn.

I kept my feelings deep inside,

But they simply cannot be denied.

My feelings for you, though time has run,

Are like the never-fading sun.

They keep me warm, they light my way,

They make cold nights as bright as day.

Adoring from afar has been my lot,

But now a better life is sought.

I’m on my knees! Oh hear my plea!

I must know; do you care for me?

But no, you need not speak a word.

I know your response, though I have not heard.

Your cheek’s fine flush, your quiet smile,

Make me think you’ve known all the while.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I had to write a love poem without using any of the words normally associated with love. This is one of three outcomes, and is definitely the most boring of the three.
