Simple times and simple pleasures
Childhood memories that we treasure
Oft forgotten times many years ago
Life ran smooth and the pace was slow
Spending our days without a care
Doing almost anything on a dare
Looking back to when I was a kid
It's a miracle I survived all the things I did
Had I known all the dangers involved
There'd be more mysteries unsolved
Climbing up to the top of the tallest tree
Baby birds in their nest I wanted to see
Go into the fields where berries we'd seek
If we got too hot we'd swim in the creek
We never worried about that old snake
Luckily it didn't prove to be our last mistake
We were always depending on one another
It was always just me and my older brother
Much to the delight and relief of our mom
Most of our time was peaceful and calm
With backs on the grass for hours we'd lie
Watching the mystical wonders in the sky
The shapes in the clouds during daylight
Heat lightning, comets and stars at night
Spending our Saturdays at the picture show
A quarter apiece and we were ready to go
Going to the barn and searching for eggs
Having scrapes up and down both legs
Sleeping outside in the middle of June
Being able to see by the light of the moon
Or trying to make lanterns out of fireflies
Everything is magical in children's eyes
